Love me some glitter nails.

Just ordered both, I am officially obsessed with all of the colors but narrowed it down to these two.
They are formaldehyde and toluene free. So although a bit pricey, are a much safer polish. Worth every sparkly penny!

X-large Shoot Los Angeles, CA

The makeup for this look was popsicle red lips, more stain than lipstick. Tinted moisturizer, cream blush, and absolutely no powder on her skin. I left her lashes bare, and used a cream eyeshadow blended with my fingertips to complete the look.
Although I do not do hair, I am proud to say I styled both the female and male models hair on this shoot!

Today was the actual shoot for my "white lace veil" look. Lots of good pics, so hard to chose. This photo is still untouched and shot with my cell phone from the computer screen so the final results should be amazing.
Thanks to the brilliant Jorge Alvarez and the lovely Lena!

Had so much fun doing this makeup test today for the upcoming shoot...more pics to follow.
Initially sketched with white pencil but ended up just doing freehand with brush and paint...
Thank you to my beautiful model Lena, for being so patient!

Forever and ever...

The Hunger 1983
Peter Murphy
Ann Magnuson and David Bowie
I so wanted to be her.

Madame Miriam

Promises,promises

I sat on the ground outside of a movie theatre for hours with my friend Maria at 13 waiting for an adult to get us into to see this movie since it was rated R. No luck that day.  I did not actually see The Hunger until I was 18 because of that, which was obviously meant to be. I saw it with a bunch of friends at someones house and we were instantly hypnotized, this was no Twilight!
The Hunger was sex, murder, music, fashion, cigarettes, elegance, the promise of eternal life, and of course, lies. The makeup and fashion inspired so many looks for us as teens. I still have my ankh necklace which I wore for so many years.
The opening sequence with Peter Murphy of Bauhaus performing was mesmerizing, there was nothing like it at the time nor will there ever be...

Polyanna...

 Showgirls 1995

If nothing else can be said about Showgirls, you cannot deny how fun it would have been to work as a makeup artist on this set. My dream job, no lie. Endless amounts of glitter, crystals, sequins, gloss, eyelashes and liquid liner. And don't forget those crazy nail designs Nomi waved around so proudly! " Like this! This!"
Everyday is a constant battle not to glitter myself up. I look at my pots of glitter in every texture and try to picture myself walking through the supermarket, the park, sparkling like a showgirl. I settle for some glitter nail polish instead.
As Crystal Connor says in the film, I'm getting a little to old for that whorey look...

Cabiria!

Cabiria's  sexy neighbor.

A night on the town.

True love, again...
Cabiria, 1957
Fellini's Cabiria is a film for the true hopeless romantic. Our scruffy little heroine, a prostitute who longs for true love and retirement, forever giving men the benefit of the doubt. You want to shake her and hug her at the same time. In one scene a lover has tried to drown her and steals her purse. When her neighbor asks about it, she claims she fell in the river and her beau was frightened and ran off. (huh?) She is loud, always with exaggerated stories and lies which mostly are to try and convince herself. When her life savings is stolen and she is left alone again, you root for her because she refuses to lose her faith in love. Through it all her dark, matte red lipstick is perfect, always there for her. Who needs men?

Yes, its true.

And God created BB.

I know many an iconic starlet has worn this eye, but the one I feel owned it is Bridgitte Bardot. I cannot tell you how many variations of this eye I have worn over the years, its my go to look. Pretty much any lip color works or no lip color at all. I can dress casually for a day out with the kids, work of course, or for a night out, which happens less and less these days. (C'est La vie!)  I even have a waterproof version for the beach or pool. Whether I use pencil, liquid or creme liner. Smudged or precise, super retro thick with false lashes or for fun in a bold color.  I have mastered all versions of it in no more than 5 minutes, and sometimes 5 minutes is all you've got.

Lipstick 1976
Lets put aside the dark subject matter for a moment. The movie was about all about the makeup. Even during the crime they managed to incorporate that amazing red lipstick! The photo shoot shot by Francesco Scavullo was every girls fantasy. Margaux Hemingway was in my book one of the original supermodels. Her dolllike face and raspy voice was the ultimate.
